2Corinthians 6
OVERVIEW
Paul recounts the price he has paid in serving the Lord.
INSIGHT
Paul urges Corinthian believers not to enter into
relationships that would bind them to unbelievers-or even
to believers who are in rebellion. His principle is to
share the commonness of spiritual values.
Paul certainly does not mean that we are to have no
dealings with non-
Christians. Otherwise, we would have no contact for
witnessing. And besides, it would not be practical to be
that isolated.
Paul instructed new Christians to rely upon Christ to
lead their non-Christian spouses to Him-in hopes that
their spouses would make this decision (1Corinthians
7:12-16).
However, we are not to lock ourselves into personal or
business relationships that might cause us to compromise
our faith or biblical principles or to divide our
loyalties. "But now I have written to you not to keep
company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually
immoral, or covetous, or an idolator, or a reviler, or a
drunkard, or an extortioner-not even to eat with such a
person" (1Corinthians 5:11).
PRAYER
* God will never leave us or forsake us. Praise Him
that He is there to ease our loneliness:
My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit has rejoiced in God my
Savior. . . .
You who are mighty have done great things
for me,
And holy is Your name.
And Your mercy is on those who fear You
(based on Luke 1:46-47,49-50).
* Now pray this confession to the Lord:
For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I
would give it;
You do not delight in burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart-
These, O God, You will not despise
(Psalm 51:16-17).
* As you confess your sins, voice your
affirmation of God's Word:
For I consider that the sufferings of this present
time are not worthy to be compared with the glory
which shall be revealed in us
(Romans 8:18).
* As you make your requests known to the Lord, pray
for:
. faithfulness with your time,
. national leaders,
. the concerns of your heart.
* Offer this prayer of worship to God:
This is the day that the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it
(Psalm 118:24
